Autumn 1 Term

Maths

We have been using manipulatives in our maths lessons to develop our understanding of the value of each digit in numbers up to 1,000,000. Building numbers with place value counters, Diennes and our Gattegeno charts has supported our understanding of place value in larger numbers.

Subtrtacting Mixed Numbers (breaking the whole)

Converting Mixed Number Fraction to Improper Fraction

Reading

This half term we have been we have been studying the story ‘Floodland’ by Marcus Sedgwick.

Reading is a huge part of our school day and we ensure that all children read daily and that they are exposed to high quality texts.

Reading is very important in our school! Year 5 have made their reading corners entertaining, welcoming and comfortable enough for their pupils to enjoy a book in their free time.
